Smart Combustion Technology

Perspective towards EURO-6

The continuously monitoring of the combustion process temperature enables to control the emission products in an optimal way without the loss of efficiency or power. This method is used to achieve Stage-V emissions without aftertreatment, in addition we have enough reasons to believe that with more research and development this method can be extended to comply with EURO-6 emission legislation for trucks and buses, without an aftertreatment system. 

 


Advantages with ArenaRed CPBC

  • Going 10% further on the same amount of energy compared to diesel.
  • Safe 37% of the fuel cost in western Europe, this can be guaranteed by ArenaRed over the entire writing off period of the installation. To be discussed with ArenaRed.
  • A possibility to run on 95% natural / bio gas or 95% hydrogen or a random blend, both from the same tank!  We enable and invite hydrogen to fuel the transportation sector. 
  • No exhaust gas aftertreatment.
  • Lower production costs due to:

  • Less sensors required.
  • Cheaper actuators possible.
  • Lower production tolerances.

    Below stated values are all measured on the DOCAT 3500AR with original Caterpillar 3500 pistons. Only the original CAT diesel injector was replaced by the ArenaRed diesel injector, the gas injector and CPS was added.  

    The following values can be demonstrated at our test facility daily.

    • Efficiency of 51,5% measured +- 2%
    • Emissions engine out
    • Gas share 95%, natural gas 95% or bio gas 95% or hydrogen 95% or a random blend of those.

    Today’s Specs with DOCAT 3500AR, there is plenty space for improvement but this has to be done based on customer demand or after the first ship is steaming with ArenaRed. 


    ArenaRed dual fuel 99% gas

    For this 99% dual fuel ArenaRed applies a different diesel injector than what we use for 95% gas.

    • Efficiency of 45% measured +- 2%
    • Emissions engine out measured
    • Gas share 99%, natural gas 99% or bio gas 99% or hydrogen 99% or a random blend of those.

    Both 95% and 99% gas deployment with ArenaRed dual fuel deserve more research. ArenaRed focuses on realising the first river ship with DOCAT 3500AR which will be 95% in all work points and also during transients. Beside this ArenaRed will apply “Skip Fire” in order to control lambda at low power and with this virtually downsize the engine up to factor 8. We will realize the first ship in the first half of 2018.
